About

Built by One Person Who Kept Losing Things

Mindly is an independent macOS app, not a venture-scale platform. That is a deliberate choice, and this page explains it.

Why Mindly exists

Mindly started with a familiar frustration: saving things is easy, and finding them again is not. Links went into bookmarks that were never opened again, screenshots piled up in folders, voice memos were recorded and never replayed, and the notes app held a little bit of everything in no order at all. Every existing tool asked for the same payment: build a system first, maintain it forever, and the moment the maintenance stopped, the system quietly died.

Mindly is the answer to that payment. One shortcut, ⌘M, captures whatever is in front of you, in any format, and the organizing is the software's job: AI reads each save, tags it by topic, summarizes the long material, transcribes the audio, and connects it to everything related. The library that other apps ask you to build assembles itself, and you find things by describing them in plain language.

The principles

Your library lives on your Mac. Mindly stores everything in a folder on your machine, not in a vendor cloud. AI processing runs over encrypted channels and content is not retained after the request completes. If Mindly disappeared tomorrow, your files would still be yours, readable, on your own disk — a standard we believe every knowledge tool should be held to, including this one.

Honesty over hype. The articles on this site recommend competitors by name when they are the better fit — Anki for flashcards, Obsidian for people who want total control, Zotero for citations. A second brain is a long-term relationship, and trust earned by honest comparison outlasts trust bought by marketing.

Organization is the software's job. Every failed system fails at the same point: the human stops filing. Mindly is built on the belief that capture should cost one keystroke and structure should emerge from the content itself.
